Is your thyroid the hidden reason behind your fertility challenges?
Check this out –>
Recent research has found that women experiencing infertility are more likely to have thyroid autoantibodies—immune proteins that mistakenly target the thyroid gland—compared to women without fertility issues. A comprehensive analysis revealed that approximately 20% of women worldwide test positive for these antibodies. Notably, women struggling to conceive have a 51% higher chance of possessing thyroid autoantibodies than women who are not struggling to conceive.
Thyroid autoimmunity can negatively impact female fertility. Several studies have found an increased prevalence of thyroid autoimmunity in women struggling to conceive, especially in those with unexplained infertility and polycystic ovary syndrome.
Given these findings, it’s advisable for women facing infertility to undergo screening for thyroid autoantibodies. Early detection can lead to interventions that may improve fertility outcomes. If you have concerns about this or haven’t been screened, I highly suggest you speak with your physician about having TPOAb and TgAb looked into. Ideally, we want to see your TPOAb is <9 IU/ml and your TgAb is <1.0 IU/ml.
Screening is the first step. Then, we need to look at this from a holistic perspective and try to understand WHY these proteins are elevated. There are various considerations, including insulin resistance, gut health issues, exposure to toxins, and stress. It’s critical to look at all possible factors involved in the cause of elevated antibodies and then address them individually. This might include additional blood tests to get clarity on what’s happening. It will also involve changes to your nutrition, and supplements, and focusing on key lifestyle habits that support various body systems.
To sum it up, there’s a clear link between thyroid autoimmunity and infertility. If you’re struggling to get pregnant, getting tested for thyroid autoantibodies could be a key step. It might help guide treatment options and improve your chances of success.
